It’s no secret that poker is popular with many professional athletes. From football greats like Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr. to baseball’s Jose Canseco and American football’s Richard Seymour, players enjoy mixing it up at the tables and competing on some of the game’s biggest stages.
That includes 888poker’s own boxing poker star Chris Eubank Jr. The game has become a more popular pastime for players while on the road and that apparently includes Liverpool FC.
The club is on a tour of the United States with matches scheduled for Wednesday against Arsenal then against Sevilla in South Carolina on Aug. 11 before opening Premier League play on Aug. 11 against Liverpool.
Liverpool Poker
As the team tours hits the road for games in the U.S. apparently some poker may be in the mix to pass some time. The club’s media team recently asked players what they couldn’t do without while traveling to away games. Some playing cards for some poker was the answer for a few.
“A deck of cards so I can play some of the lads and obviously win,” midfielder James McConnell noted in the video.
Defender Conor Bradley also added: “A pack of cards and a poker set. I think they’re a must whenever you go away.” He also added that he was the best player on the squad and that midfielder Stefan Bajcetic was the worst, noting: “He is absolutely clueless.”
Panthers Get in the Action, Win Title
In the U.S., the Florida Panthers also recently offered some insight on their own poker games while on the road. There is a regular group that plays for hours.
That camaraderie paid off in a big way as the team went on to win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship this year.
