In the Beginning, There Was Vegas and Rapping
Joey’s Vegas journey began eight years ago with a camera and a microphone and the hopes of getting a content creating career off the ground.
This episode happens to be Joey’s second trip in the 888ride – where Joey was caught red-handed burying a body in the desert and rapping!
Moving to Las Vegas afforded Ingram the chance to play more poker and familiarise himself with the poker industry. He met 888ride presenter David Tuchman at the Global Poker Awards in LA and never looked back.
"When I first started my podcast, I was only the only online PLO player. So, I knew every sick online PLO player, but I didn't know anyone in the more, you know, like the business world or the content world - and the media world and the poker industry.
“So, my thought process was, if I go out there, then I'm gonna meet a lot of people who are doing content and making moves.”
Merging Content Creation with Poker Playing
Merging his game as a content creator with his poker career has produced massive results on both ends. Content creation has taught how much the media can be skewed and the technicalities of how online software works.
“My mind now is more open to the realities of how people are building their business in the poker industry because you think that there's just a player. But the player is a very small part of what makes up the poker world.
“Most of the media is focused on the poker world, where the real end bosses are going under the radar. And I find that part all interesting.”
"So, like, I love playing, but I'm just trying other things."
Who Is Joey Ingram?
Joey has always been a bit of a one-man-gang, going it alone when it comes to partnering with the big online poker sites – despite the obvious offers. He seems to have made a conscious decision to build the Joey Ingram brand.
"I'm identifying more as somebody who lives in Vegas and has access to unlimited resources, right? So, in my mind, when I'm building out a new idea for what I want my life to be.
“I want it to be something that I love and something that plays with my life. And, you know, you got to figure out, well, who do you want to be. And I'm kind of at that point now where I got to make a decision.
“I got to decide which direction I'm going to go. Am I going to, you know, play poker? Am I going to try to be more of an investor, more of a businessman?”
Private Games, Private Lives and AI Babies
Joey feels confined to that private games world because playing public games can be unenjoyable. He feels that some players view him as a celeb and treat him in ways he finds uncomfortable.
Typically, in private games, this situation is less likely to occur.
Similarly, Joey likes to keep his private life, private. He is single and buys into the whole AI dating scene.
So, Joey is all-in, from the ride-or-die AI babe to real-life AI babies!
“I mean, I'm also buying into the whole AI baby thing where essentially you can create a baby in a genetic lab. I mean, whether it's here or not, you know, like, I'm not saying it is, or I need it now. But from everything my research, this is 100% already happening.”
For the Love of the Game
Even though Joey is more into investment, content creation and the behind-the-scenes poker world these days, he still loves the game.
He is leaning towards the strategy side and fine-tuning GTO wizards and solvers’ strategy in his new content. A recent partnership with UTL Wizard attests to this plan.
However, his desire to remain active in the live poker scene has led him to cultivate a partnership with a Las Vegas strip casino.
Living out here, I feel like you live in Vegas [for] eight years; you realise anything's possible. So, I'm just gonna go for the craziest thing I can see in my mind and see what happens.”
